Windows Live Writer is getting better day by day. It's the only Blog Editor which I have been using since a year. It provides an author with all necessary tools that he may need to write, format, create, optimize and monetize his article. With its best text editor, better media insertion options and amazing image effects, WLW in short is the reason behind the look of every well organized and well written blog. As soon as I was done with my exams I downloaded the latest version of Windows Live Writer and I am really excited to share some of its worth mentioning features that simply can't be avoided.
Some of the new Features include,
1) A Look Like Microsoft Office
You feel like working on Microsoft Office. The entire interface, look and design just make things really exciting.
2) Breaks
1- Horizontal Line Like the one below
2- Clear Break : Just like a <br/> tag that adds a break or gap to your paragraph or image.
3- Read More Link - Post Splitter
These features are important to inform users about updates or while splitting a post into half using the read more link
3) Better Insert Options
You can easily insert images, videos, hyperlinks, Google Maps, Social Media tags, emoticons and the best of all "Plugins", which equips WLW with things that you may need out of those provided by default.
4) Hyperlink and Image Tagging
Clicking the hyperlink will open the window above where your copies Link will automatically appear in the web address option and the only thing you need to do is to give it some description and check the "Open Link in a new window" option in order to apply the target="_blank" tag. You can also add a keyword to rel tag for better optimization.
By Clicking on image you can also insert title tags and alt tags to it as shown below. This increases your Google Image Search Rankings.
5) Take Screenshots
Take screenshot using the Print Screen key on your keyboard and then click any where in your Draft Post to paste the screenshot using Ctrl+V. You can then Resize and crop the image by clicking it and then using the tools already provided in the Writer.
Now you do not need photoshop or Windows Paint or any Image editing website to take screenshots.
6) Advance Cropping
After taking a Clean and neat screenshot you will need to crop it. The Crop tool helps crop and slice the image accurately using its rotate, auto-resize and grid option.
7) Post Draft To Blog
Most of the times you cant take your laptop to some places but what if you needed to publish a post you had written in WLW using your Blogger Account?
The above option creates a draft post on your Blogger Account. You can then publish that post whenever you want using any computer connected to internet.
8) Headings
I have styled all my Post headings. This helps to give a more attractive look to your blog posts and also increases pageviews. As you can see above I am using a different style for H2 tag and different for H3 and H5. This CSS styling is done in my template manually and not by WLW. To learn how to do it read -> 6 Ways to Style your Blog Headers
9) Subscript and Superscript and Text Highlighter
This option was missing in the previous versions. A SubscriptMBT and a SuperscriptMBT . The best thing I liked about these two options is that you can style the font appearance which is something introduced for the first time in WLW.
You can also highlight a text using several different colours.
10) Better Word Count
This tool is important in a sense that you can count the number of characters in your title using it for better optimization as well as you can keep track of the length of the post written.
10) Picture Rotation
Pictures can be rotated clockwise and anticlockwise and also tilted. It helps to give an attractive look to your images.

@Fahad
ReplyDeleteYou are right. There are a lot of formatting problems with MS Word and especially while uploading Photos. The point remains the same if it was all about publishing then one could use Blogger Editor instead then why bother WLW. ;)
@Jeet

Hello Mohammad,
ReplyDeleteLoved the write up. Last year almost during this time period i downloaded WLW but could not work on it because of lack of knowledge about how to use it. The above write up cleared everything.
Still i am confused on one thing i.e. while writting on WLW, as it is said, we do not need to connect to the internet, but what if we need to link something? For that we need to have internet and have to open up the page to be linked. Or do we find any other add-on WLW to open up our blog(s) in offline mode to insert hyperlinks?
Please clarify. Thanks for ur support as always.
Do you have to add plugins for any of the items you mentioned in this article?
ReplyDeleteSome of those plugins for windows live have descriptions that are rather vague.
@Hetal
ReplyDeleteIn an offline mode nothing from internet can be accessed. No such tool, software exists. By offline Blogging we mean that you can easily write down your post using WLW text editor. You can format it, style it as much as you want. Leave hyperlinks as bolded and once you are connected to internet simply replace those bolded texts with links. Same goes for images, keep a vacant space for images to be added and once you are connected you can search for images in Google and add them to your post.
And you are always welcomed buddy. :>
@Hannah
No all tools mentioned above are present by default in WLW 2011. Which part was not clear buddy?
bhai ji
ReplyDeleteI did all thing as you suggested in the post . But after clicking on the tab marchent i am not getting donate button. I checked all the options.. please help
@आनन्द पाण्डेय
ReplyDeleteI am sorry pal but which donate button? Kindly explain your question a bit
The tutorial on the headings is very understandable - as usual. My question is how did you get those specialized headings in your WLW program like you have pictured?
ReplyDeleteMaybe an article on that? I would love to know myself!
Nice post !
ReplyDeleteBut i am unable to update live writer with new version in my xp PC. I uninstall it and reinstall. But doesn't work. Older version always appear. But in my vista i have got new version.
Is there a way to edit specific post with this WLW?
ReplyDeleteRight now, the only one way to edit is to load all posts, which is slow, then find the title :(
Mohd is window live wire for Mac also ?
ReplyDeleteDear Friend, I want to ask u that, is there any plugin or something like this in WLW, which is violating webmasters quality issue in blogger.
ReplyDeletewaiting for reply.
