Remove Shortcut Arrows From Desktop Icons Plus Make Icon Labels Transparent

no-to-shortcut-arrows-and-t When you install a new program on your system, a shortcut icon with an arrow is created and placed at your desktop. To many of these arrows on desktop shortcut icons do spoil a desktop’s beauty and prevents you from giving a pro look to your desktop. So lets learn the TNT of removing these arrows forever!

Desktop-Icons-Before

shortcut-after

Now to do this follow these steps

  1. Go Start Menu > Run
  2. Type regedit in Run

Registry editor will pop up as shown below,

registry-editor

         3.       Navigate to the following registry key,

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\lnkfile

Delete the IsShortcut registry value in the right pane (To delete the key right click it and select delete)

Note:- It’s also workable to just rename the IsShortcut registry entry to another name, such as IsNotShortcut. If incase you want the arrows back, you can navigate to the same registry key above and then rename IsNotShortcut to IsShortcut.

         4.     Now navigate to the following registry key,

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\piffile

Delete the IsShortcut registry value in the right pane.

Note:- Again I would say that it’s also workable to just rename the IsShortcut registry entry to another name, such as IsNotShortcut. If incase you want the arrows back, you can navigate to the same registry key above and then rename IsNotShortcut to IsShortcut.

         5.    Finally Restart your windows and enjoy the pro look on your next log in.

Make the Background of Your Icon Text Transparent on the Desktop

Icon-Menu-before

icon-menu-after

To do this, follow the steps below,

  1. Right Click  My Computer  in the Start Menu or at Desktop
  2. Select properties

A window will pop up as shown below. Select the Advanced Tab and then select Settings

arrow1

After clicking Settings you will see a new window as shown below,

arrow2

Now Tick the box saying “Use drop Shadows for icon labels on the desktop” Then Click Apply and then Ok. Now when you look at your desktop icons, the coloured backgrounds for Icon Labels would have gone! Enjoy a neat and clean Desktop bye

That’s All!

Hmmm Really informative presentation...............
Good work Zai. but this presentation is for Windows XP or any other OS I guess, because Windows7 has this feature by default.

@Sir Jaseem

Yes sir you got that right. This is an old utility that works well for windows XP. And of course new versions have many features added to them.
